For applications involving mammalian cell lines for expressing mAbs low RPM and preferably no bursting aeration bubbles is mandatory as the cells are fragile.
Mammalian cell are eukaryotes, such as CHO, VERO, BHK21, HEK293, cell size often ranging between 15-25 µm, thin cell membrane and shear sensitive, doubling time during cultivation in a bioreactor is typically 24 hours, products are usually extracellular, can produce very large molecules, produce glycosylated proteins, produce humanized antibodies.

The flow-charts illustrate two mechanically different directions. Mostly based on the SUB size and a process that absorbs heat (endothermic) from its surroundings. A CellVessel SUB cultivating mammalian cells needs to be heated in order to constantly hold like 37 degree C. Typical RPM for agitation is 250 allowing limited size motors.

For applications involving bacteria like e.coli (Escherichia coli) for production of mAbs high RPM and lots of aeration gas is allowed as e.coli is very robust.
E.coli is a micro-organism with strong cell wall, fast growing with often 20 minute doubling time, high oxygen demand, product are often intracellular, limited in ability to produce molecules larger than 50 kDa, cannot produce fully humanized antibodies.

The flow-charts illustrates two different supply of thermal control both for a thermodynamic process or reaction that releases energy (exothermic) from the SUF to its surroundings. Like bacteria in a BactoVessel fermenter which need to be cooled in order to keep constant like 25 degree C. Agitation with several turbines on the central axle and up to like 1,250 RPM is realistic though requires significant agitation motor power.
