Design
Clotho / Atropos-1 is very compact Drive Units supporting the Clio and Euterpe type of Single-Use-Pump's.
Clotho is the software in the Metis Drive Unit for Clio integrated with the Perfusion-Single-Use-Bioreactor (P-SUB's) for high cell density cultivation. Such as the CellMembra P-SUB available from PerfuseCell. The P-SUB integrate the Clio diaphragm Single-Use-Pump (SUP), the Cross-Flow-Filter (CFF), the Single-Use-Sensors (SUS) - all in one package ready to use. Clotho / Atropos control accurately the pumped volume and the velocity of the broth passing through the CFF.
Atropos is the software in the Metis Drive Unit for Euterpe - a unique stand-alone Positive Displacement Single-Use-Pump from company PumpCell. The Euterpe family is remarkable as there is no need for expensive external mass-flow sensor's. No need for tools exchanging the SUP cell. No need for bulky pump heads and sensor's. No nano size silicone particles polluting the liquid. No manual calibration is needed.
Driving diaphragm SUP's requires pressure above and vacuum below atmospheric pressure. The SUP drive gas pressure is continuously adjusted via a set of proportional valves inside Clotho / Atropos. Intelligent microprocessor with advanced PID algorithms get information from Laser and pressure sensor's.

Specification
When Clotho / Atropos is connected to a pressure and vacuum source with sufficient capacity, then the spec is:
- Stroke frequency, per minute: 1 - 60 (depending on pressured air / vacuum capacity)
- Stroke duration, seconds: 1 - 60 (depending on pressured air / vacuum capacity)
- Clio as integrated with CellMembra - CFF broth velocity, m/s: 0,1 – 15
Clio as mounted on CellMembra and the stand-alone Euterpe share the same diaphragm basic dimension. As to this also the same performance like SV ad CO.
Clio SUP size, names | mini/30 | small/100 | medium/200 | large/300 |
Euterpe SUP size, names | Euterpe-30 | Euterpe-100 | Euterpe-200 | Euterpe-300 |
Stroke Volume, SV, mL/stroke | 1-34 | 1-104 | 2-200 | 3-300 |
Cardiac Output, CO range, mL/min | 1-750 | 2-1.500 | 3-3.000 | 4-4.000 |
Suitable Drive-Gas pumps, also in the Hephaestus cabinet, for supply of pressure and vacuum for Clotho / Atropos are Alagonia. Check out the Sarpedon reservoir stabilizing pressure/vacuum and reduce pulsation when several Clio or Euterpe SUPs operate on the same supply. Sufficient supply is your planned CO x 50% at >2 Bar pressure and CO x 50% at >900 mBar vacuum.
Clotho / Atropos can of course be driven by in lab installed pneumatic air and vacuum.
